New Regional Dossier 'German language in education in Romania'
Did you know that German is an official language of instruction in several public schools in Romania? In 129 kindergartens and 84 schools there, German is spoken by teachers. Yet teaching German is under pressure in Romania, due to declining numbers of teachers and pupils.
In the series 'Regional Dossiers' of the Mercator European Research Centre on Multilingualism and Language Learning, the first edition of 'The German language in education in Romania' is now published. This dossier, like all others, can be downloaded free of charge.
This first edition of ‘The German language in education in Romania’ is written by Liana Regina Iunesch en Robert Pfützner. Both Liana Regina Iunesch, PhD, and Robert Pfützner, PhD, work at the Department for Teacher Training (Departamentul pentru Pregătirea Personalului Didactic) at Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (Universitatea “Lucian Blaga” din Sibiu) and are researchers at the Research Center of Cultural Heritage and Socio-Cultural History – Research Unit Intercultural Dialog at Lucian Blaga University.
Regional Dossiers
With the Regional Dossiers, the Mercator European Research Centre on Multilingualism and Language Learning focuses on the educational system in European regions with an indigenous minority language and how this minority language finds a place within that system. The Regional Dossiers are written according to a fixed structure so that they can be used for comparative research.
