Working at the Fryske Akademy and Mercator European Research Centre

How nice that you are interested in working at the Fryske Akademy and the Mercator European Knowledge Centre for Multilingualism and Language Learning! Working with us means working in a special, historical environment together with inspiring colleagues and partner organisations. We are a flat organisation in which employees work independently with enthusiasm and passion. Collegial cooperation and room for initiatives are paramount.

The Fryske Akademy Foundation has been conducting scientific research on the Frisian language, multilingual society and regional history of Fryslân for over 85 years. With multidisciplinary research, the Fryske Akademy makes innovative contributions to the international scientific debate, contributes to the academic climate in Leeuwarden and Fryslân, and generates inspiring fundamental and applicable knowledge for and about society. The Mercator European Research Centre on Multilingualism and Language Learning has been part of the Fryske Akademy since 1987. Mercator conducts comparative and applied research in Europe in the field of multilingual education, language policy and language vitality, and links it to social issues in Fryslân. In this way, the Fryske Akademy works on high-level science, with an eye for social impact and based on a strong commitment to Fryslân and the Frisians. The Fryske Akademy is firmly anchored in the region and is affiliated with the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).
