International meeting Read with MEE project in Leeuwarden
In mid-March, the Read with MEE consortium gathered in Leeuwarden for their third international project meeting. This Erasmus+ project is a collaboration between NHL Stenden (NL), 8D Games (NL), ATiT (BE), the University of the Basque Country (ES), Trinity College Dublin (IE) and Fryske Akademy / Mercator European Research Centre (coordinating partner). Project manager Martine Jansen: “All in all, we had two incredibly productive and inspiring days in Leeuwarden!”
On the first day, the group was hosted by NHL Stenden and they were able to make serious progress regarding all project outputs: a handbook, videos with interviews and good practices, and a game. In the afternoon, the consortium hosted a writing hub with local experts and collaboratively wrote three stories that will function as input for the game. On the second day, the project team was hosted by 8D and continued workshopping the stories. By the end of the day, they had finished the foundation of the serious game! While a part of the consortium worked on the stories, others visited two schools in Fryslân for video recordings.
Oer Read With MEE
The Erasmus+ project Read with Multilingual Early Education (Read with MEE) will develop innovative tools and resources to advance key literacy skills of young multilingual children (2-6 y/o). The project responds to a pressing challenge, since children who grow up multilingually often face unequal educational opportunities compared to their monolingual peers. In order to support the development of multilingual children’s early literacy skills, the project promotes the use of children’s home languages during reading as well as the use of a dialogic reading approach. By including their home languages in reading, the Read with MEE project focusses on key European priorities, such as inclusion and diversity in education, and the tackling of children’s low proficiency in basic skills.
Read with MEE is a cooperation between six partners representing the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, and Spain, and is coordinated by Mercator European Research Centre.
