Fryske Akademy and Campus Fryslân are working closely on language technology with FLARESlab

– something that’s a world away from my daily life? Not at all! Campus Fryslân (University of Groningen) and the Fryske Akademy are delighted to show you the latest developments in the field of Frisian language and speech technology.

On Friday 13 November 2026 (from 1.30 pm), researchers from both institutions will demonstrate a number of ongoing projects, such as a synthetic Frisian voice, a Frisian-speaking robot that can converse with you, new applications for speech and translation technology, and a new collaborative platform for innovation and research.

The Frisian Academy and Campus Fryslân are organising this event as part of the new collaborative initiative FLARESlab, which stands for Fryslân Language Technology Research Lab. At this meeting, they will bring together researchers, public authorities, cultural institutions, businesses and other interested parties to discuss the future of the Frisian language in the digital age. In addition to presentations on the latest developments in the field of Frisian language and speech technology, the organisers would also like to engage in discussion about opportunities for future collaboration. Everyone is warmly welcome to attend.

The presentations will be in English, Dutch and Frisian. Admission is free, and the event will finish at 4.00 pm.
