80 12-year-olds from Zwolle to Leeuwarden for Frisian language

On Wednesday 29 January, the Thorbecke Scholengemeenschap from Zwolle will come to Leeuwarden for the third time with nearly 80 VWO students (11- and 12-year-olds) as part of the Multilingualism Day in their Science Week. Their French teacher was born and raised in Friesland and he is keen to introduce his pupils to the Frisian language.

Mercator, Fryske Akademy and Tresoar work together to inspire these youngsters with workshops on language and tours of Tresoar's depots. Martijn Kingma, Martine Jansen and Inge Heslinga (Mercator / Fryske Akademy) will talk about language variation and multilingualism, Jacob Roep (educational officer at Tresoar) will provide the guided tours.

This is the third and last time the group will come to Leeuwarden; the school is opting for a different set-up in school year ‘25/’26.

The Leeuwarder Courant published a nice article about the first visit in 2023.
