How many languages do you actually hear in a day? And do you ever think about what lies buried deep beneath your feet?

Did you know that languages have families, just like people? Although we use language all day long, we don't really think about it. Nor do we often think about what lies buried deep beneath our feet. What once lived here — and what did they leave behind? 

Come and join linguists and historians from the Fryske Akademy to unravel these secrets of language and culture! Roll up your sleeves and come and decipher secret languages, write poems, and hunt for treasure! For curious children of all ages (including parents and grandparents!). You don't need to speak Frisian to participate; all languages are welcome!  

Weekend of Science
‘Weekend van de Wetenschap’ is designed to give everyone, young and old, an accessible insight into the world of science and technology. The weekend takes place every year on the first weekend of October. In 2025, this will be on October 4 & 5. The Fryske Akademy's activities can be attended on Saturday, October 4, at Campus Fryslân. All activities in Leeuwarden.
