Keimpe Algra member of Supervisory Board Fryske Akademy

Prof. dr. Keimpe Algra has been appointed as a new member of the Supervisory Board of the Fryske Akademy, of which the Mercator European Research Centre on Multilingualism and Language Learning is a part.

Philosopher and historian of science Keimpe Algra is professor of Philosophy of Antiquity, in particular of the Hellenistic period, at Utrecht University. He is also affiliated with the Research Institute for Philosophy and Religious Studies.

In 2024 he chaired the KNAW committee investigating university study of the Frisian language and culture. The report “De toekomst van de frisistiek' recommended the reestablishment of a university study of Frisian with a full-time professor.

Algra is pleased with his appointment to the Supervisory Board. "The Fryske Akademy is a beautiful and unique institute. It is my pleasure to use my scientific and managerial experience in the Supervisory Board. Personally, I have a great interest in Frisian history and literature, especially poetry. Also, I am interested in the history of academic Frisianism. I look forward to meeting everyone.'

Algra succeeds Prof. dr. Anthonya Visser, who was supervisor at the Fryske Akademy for eight years.
