Fryske Akademy participates in FryslânDOK 'Wize fan it Waad'

Scientists Simon Halink and Nelleke IJssennagger-van der Pluijm of the Fryske Akademy are in June featured in FryslânDOK's new five-part documentary series about the Wadden area. 'Wize fan it Waad' focuses on the special relationship between human and nature in the Wadden area.

The premiere of ‘Wize fan it Waad’ was held on May 28, 2025 in the Aljemint of the Fryske Akademy. The first episode (which aired last weekend) focuses on the town of Rungholt: a medieval trading town in Nordfriesland, Germany. In it, Simon Halink talks about the relationship between man and nature.

On Omrop Fryslân, Halink explains: "The meaning of stories often change over time. Through stories we can make each other aware of our own behavior or that of others, we can think about the consequences of our actions." Halink says facts and data are important, “but stories appeal more to the imagination and are just as important as scientific research.”
