Partners from the Global Citizenship and Multilingual Competences (GCMC) project recently met in the Dutch province of Fryslân to share, promote and test parts of the teaching modules they developed during the project.

At the Dutch-Frisian-English trilingual secondary school CSG Liudger in Burgum, the consortium joined an English-taught class in geography and was inspired to see multilingual education in practice. At NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences in Ljouwert/Leeuwarden, primary teacher training students did some exercises from the module on diversity and multilingualism and gave valuable feedback on the teaching materials.

Later this year, a manual with case-studies and guidelines about how to best use the GCMC-materials will become available online at gcmc.global. 

About Global Citizenship and Multilingual Competences (GCMC)

Global citizenship education (GCE) has become part of many international educational policies and an educational priority in the 21st century. Language learning and multilingualism have great potential to contribute to the achievement of GCE goals, as they stimulate cross-cultural awareness and help develop intercultural literacy.  It is the aim of this project to empower teachers of all subjects to integrate GCE goals with a plurilingual approach into their regular teaching.

GCMC gets funding from the Erasmus+ Programme - KA2 Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices / KA201 Strategic Partnerships for school education. It is a collaboration between Universität Graz (AT), Mercator European Research Centre / Fryske Akademy (NL), Newcastle University (Upon Tyne) (UK), Alma Mater Studorium of the Universita di Bologna (IT) and Neosmart GmbH (AT/DE).
