Fries taalbeleid wordt eerder zwakker dan sterker bij gemeentelijke herindelingen. Dat blijkt uit onderzoek dat DINGtiid, het rijksadviesorgaan voor de Friese taal, heeft laten uitvoeren door Mercator Europees Kenniscentrum voor Meertaligheid en Taalleren. Het onderzoek is uitgezet naar aanleiding van de adviesvraag van de provincie of er bij herindelingen voldoende aandacht is voor het Fries.

Professor Boyd Robertson was principal at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig UHI (National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture), in the Isle of Skye, UK. He recently retired. Boyd Robertson has written the first edition of the Mercator regional dossier about Gaelic in Scotland, in 2001, and also has written the new updated edition, which was published earlier this year.
