CLS is an inter-university research institute in linguistics. CLS research is concentrated in four main areas: modelling language structure and variation, psycholinguistics, speech technology, and communication studies.
The aim of the Centre for Language Studies (CLS) is to achieve a level of excellence in the field of language & speech behaviour and language structure that ensures it a prominent position in the national and international research arena. Researchers cooperate in a variety of interdisciplinary programmes.
Many of the research projects are externally funded and are conducted in close cooperation with national and international partners. The CLS comprises four full-fledged programmes:
Structure and variation
Structure in use
Technology and information processing
Cultural differences and communication problems.
Research partners within CLS are:
University of Tilburg, faculty of Arts
Radboud University, faculty of Arts
Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, Nijmegen.
CLS is part of the Netherlands Graduate School of Linguistics (LOT), in which major research groups of the universities of Amsterdam, Vrije Universiteit, University of Leiden, and the University of Utrecht collaborate. This national graduate school received official recognition from the Dutch Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) in 1999. |
