The Latvian Human Rights Committee (the Committee) is a non-governmental organization. The Committee sets itself as an aim the observance of the International Bill on Human Rights and that of other international instruments on human rights on the territory of the Republic of Latvia. The Committee was founded in 1990. It has regularly commenced rendering aid in legal matters since December 1992 There are lawyers, journalists, MPs, members of local councils among the members of the Committee. In January 1995 the Committee joined the International Federation of Human Rights Leagues (F.I.D.H.). Since 1997 the Committee is a member of the international human rights organization UNITED." |
